The launching of Crown's new Fashion for Walls - a premium, water based emulsion - in an award winning metal can, heralds its return to pre-eminence as the packaging for quality paint.
The innovative paint collection was launched in Summer 2006 to encourage consumers to experiment with colour and update their home decor as they would their wardrobes. The stylish packaging whose design was created by Dutch brand specialists Mountain Design, echoes the paint range's versatile colours and finishes, reinforcing the core brand values.
By utilising the expertise of Norwich based metal can manufacturer, Impress, the brief was delivered in the shape of a new range of high quality paint cans. Through the utilisation of improved printing processes and enhanced manufacturing techniques, the packaging was delivered precisely to the brief and actually provided an additional cost benefit.
The final complement was a "Silver" for Consumer Appeal and a "Winner" in the Homecare & Industrial Category at the Best in Metal Awards. This was a fitting reward for the commitment to maintaining brand values, design integrity and quality of the complete concept in the final packaging. All entries were judged on their consumer appeal, fitness for purpose, innovation, environmental friendliness, technical expertise and quality of surface graphics.
The judging panel consisted of industry experts and professionals including John Horwood, Head of Packaging, Europe, Middle East & Africa Cadbury Schweppes Plc. and John Nutting, Editor of The Canmaker Magazine.
Liz Hickson, Crown Retail Marketing Controller, comments: "This is a fantastic honour for Crown and a great testament to the design of the product packaging. We are thrilled that Crown's Fashion For Walls paint collection received first place honours in the Homecare & Industrial Category. We did particularly well to achieve a Silver Award for Consumer Appeal considering the breadth of entries we were up against."
Matt Sykes, Impress Account Manager for Crown added "This success reinforces our belief that, in addition to the environmental benefit that steel packaging has and it's ability to be 100% recycled, the metal can continues to deliver the flexibility and quality to make a brand outstanding, delivering real shelf appeal."
