Ten Can Beer Keg wins prestigious award

Customer and canmaker combine to win top honours at the recent Deutscher Verpackungs Wettbewerb Award ceremony held in Nuremberg, Germany.

At the German Packaging Award ceremony held at the end of September, Impress had the unique distinction of having no less than three of the twenty two nominations in the Sales Packaging (Verkaufsverpackungen) category. The Easy Handle paint can and Laura Ashley fine quality paint can were joined by the Ten Can Beer Keg which ultimately carried off one of the seven awards in this group.

Co-developed by Impress and Heineken, the ten litre self dispensing keg is fitted with a patented integrated pressure system which keeps the beer fresh for 30 days after opening. One of the main challenges was to create a container which will withstand a minimum internal pressure of 5 bars. This was achieved by special shaping of the top and bottom of the keg. Distortion printing with a special lacquer gives a brilliant appearance to the container even after the extreme expansion process which takes tinplate to the limit of its capabilities and which requires the precision and quality control delivered by Impress production processes.

Plastic handles are assembled after filling which, as well as providing convenient handling for the consumer, also allow storage of the tapping device. The Ten Can keg is for use at parties, restaurants, barbeques and many other events and can be used with the Xtreme draught beer installation unit developed by Heineken to promote at the point of serving.
