Norwich plant impresses on Valentine's Day

The MP for Norwich North, Dr Ian Gibson, visited Impress Norwich Plant, UK, on Thursday, 14th  February looking to see  "how Impress can impress."

Paul Stokes, General Manager, Neil Remnant, Norwich Operations Manager and Matt Sykes, Key Account Manager, presented an overview of the Company and talked more specifically about recent changes to the Norwich site, major investments taking place and awards received in 2007. Sustainable development was discussed, outlining how the superior qualities of metal could deliver benefits in an increasingly environmentally aware society. Questions, and there were many, were fielded calmly, honestly and effectively. It was real teamwork. The messages were clear and well received.

Dr Gibson toured the Plant with the management team and commented on a very positive atmosphere. He spoke to shop floor staff during his tour and will be meeting with some of them at a later date. He also spoke to Peter Hall, Graphics Manager, who explained the Impress 6 colour printing process.

Dr Gibson said that, in contrast to his previous visit, he was greatly encouraged by recent progress and the enthusiasm and inspiration of the present Norwich Management team. He found the presentation very informative, the Plant more ecologically efficient, working conditions more pleasant on the shop floor and liked the light, bright and airy environment of recent building works. He was impressed by the team spirit shown throughout the site and the involvement of the shop floor in ongoing projects where innovative ideas are encouraged, recognised and rewarded.

He suggested that contacts at the University of Norwich may be useful to further develop sustainability advantages, as "they are big on climate change" and mentioned city courses that are reacting to industry to give students the right skills for job vacancies.

Dr Gibson shows genuine interest in the Norwich Plant and requested that the Management team keep in touch offering help by political leverage, where appropriate.

Sam Williams, Business and Features Editor of the Norwich Evening News, also attended the visit and his article can be found at www.impressgroup.com in the 'in the press' section.
