Impress' Specialities Division, the European market leader in the Paints & Coatings can making sector, has been recognised yet again for its innovative approach to design at the Starpack 2008 Awards held recently at the Café Royal in London.
Paint cans produced out of the Norwich factory received the awards in the Consumer Products category for Crown Paints' Fashion For Walls and Laura Ashley (Texplan) Colour Matched cans.
Fashion For Walls is a very stylish packaging that underpins the choice of the metal can for quality paint. The Dutch brand specialists, Mountain Design, captured the paint range's versatile colours and finishes, reinforcing the core brand values and encouraging consumers to experiment with colour and update their home décor as they would their wardrobes. Through the utilisation of improved printing processes and enhanced manufacturing techniques, the packaging was delivered precisely to the brief.
A new and innovative way to promote the Laura Ashley pearlescent range by printing the cans to match the colour of the paint inside was the result of a new colour system developed by Impress. Packed in 750ml lever lid tins, a deep pearlescent effect was achieved by using special silk screen inks. Displaying the range of colours on shelf rather than using the traditional paper colour-card is a testament to what can be achieved in metal packaging and speaks volumes for the quality and strength of printing on tinplate.
Matt Sykes, Impress Account Manager, commented, "This reinforces our belief that, in addition to the environmental benefit that metal packaging has and its ability to be 100% recycled, it continues to deliver the flexibility and quality to make a brand outstanding and create real shelf appeal."
Starpack is a UK annual awards scheme recognising innovation in packaging design and technology and also the outstanding role packaging plays in providing benefits to consumer lifestyles and the marketing benefits it offers the supply chain. The Awards are organised by the IoP: The Packaging Society, a long established and distinguished packaging institute, which merged with the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) to form a powerful force in the ever-changing world of packaging.
