Impress, one of the world's leading canmakers, and Inesa, a leading canmaker in South America, have reached agreement to establish a joint venture with the aim of capturing a significant part of the Peruvian market in steel and aluminium cans within the next three years.
The new company to be called "2I S.A.C" is to be jointly held with a 50% share for each partner, and will target the growing markets in Peru for locally-sourced seafood and food products.
At the same time, Inesa has built a plant in Callao, Peru, enabling the company to produce directly in Peru using state-of-the-art technology. An extensive range of containers will be produced and commercialized by this joint venture.
With more than 40 years experience, Inesa has operations in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil, offering a wide variety of tin plate cans and ends for seafood, corned beef and agricultural produce. Inesa also produces and sells plastic and aluminium closures throughout South America.
Impress will continue to deliver cans and ends from Europe and North America into the region as well as providing local inventories, technical assistance and Research and Development know-how in support of the joint venture.
Guillermo Canales, Inesa's CEO, emphasized the importance of this alliance for the packaging market in Peru. "The expertise and size of both companies will result in the creation of an important player for the Peruvian market, in which we hope to be a key player. It is our important decision to participate together in this process."
Francis Labbé, CEO of Impress, said "We are very pleased to be working alongside Inesa to develop this growing market. Inesa has a fine and long-established reputation for quality and reliability in South America and we believe that the two companies working together will provide an exceptionally strong supply base for major customers in Peru."
