On 5 November 2009, Impress Italy announced that its Montecchio factory, located in Montecchio Emilia (Reggio Emilia) has obtained British Retail Consortium Certification - Global Standard - Food Packaging and other Packaging Materials (BRC/IoP). Impress is the first Italian metal food can producer to achieve this prestigious landmark.
The BRC/IoP Certification is internationally recognised by the European food chain as one of the best testimonies of high and consistent standards by those certified.
The ever-growing importance placed on food product safety has made it necessary to define standards, not only for manufacturing, but also for distribution and sales aimed at establishing the most comprehensive protection towards consumers.
DNV (Det Norske Veritas) Italia, a leader in the certification field, undertook the certification process, which includes an annual update to ensure the measures certified continue to be respected.
Impress Italy, with a turnover of approximately 180 million euros in 2008, supplies the food, aerosol and general line markets. Products manufactured include a full range of metal and aluminium cans, easy open and open top ends, and aerosols associated with these markets.
“We specifically targeted this certification due to our direct link to the European food chain and the importance placed on product safety by our customers”, said Massimiliano Zanirato, Plant Manager at Montecchio. “Receiving this recognition in such a short period is proof of the expertise and determination of our entire workforce.”
Marta Bellingeri, Regional Sales Director Italy, said: “Today, Impress has reinforced its position as the sector leader, offering its customers products that respect the highest hygiene and safety standards in the industry, and which are now key factors for the food chain.”
