Impress has earned the Supreme Gold for Best in Metal – plus three individual product category Gold awards and four Commendations - at the Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association (MPMA) Best in Metal Awards 2009.

The MPMA Best in Metal awards showcase the versatility of metal as it is adapted to challenges of performance, aesthetics and sustainability. Impress was awarded Supreme Gold for EASIP®, a steel peelable end which can be sterilised through continuous retorts without over pressure. EASIP® was first applied on Bonduelle’s 200g canned vegetable products, and shows ‘true innovation’, according to MPMA judges.
2009 award categories included processed and non processed food; health and beauty; homecare and industrial; promotional and giftware; beverages; highly commended.
Impress innovations scored Gold for the following categories:
• Homecare and Industrial for dPrint, a 100% digital printing process that combines high-quality printing with low-volume runs. dPrint can reproduce 95 per cent of all Pantone colours via the standard four colour process.
• Beverages for the newly launched 350ml Karvan Cévitam Specials range of syrups, for H.J. Heinz. The range includes a specially designed pouring closure, and an attractive shape with shelf appeal to complement the rest of the Karvan Cévitam beverage family.
• Processed food for EASIP®, which also earned Impress the Best in Metal Supreme Gold award.
Impress was the only company to be recognised by the judges for the efforts made promoting the environmental benefits of metal packaging and received Highly Commended awards for the following campaigns:
- the UK paint can recycling campaign – correcting the myth that metal paints cannot be recycled
- the European truck advertising campaign – launched in the UK, The Netherlands and Germany
- the embossed recycling messages on paint can lids – to promote DIY consumer recycling awareness.
Impress’ Merthyr plant (UK) was also commended for delivering a Corporate Social Responsibility policy with a focus on the health and well being of its employees.
“We’re thrilled to receive these awards which we believe reflect our strength as an innovator in each of these fields,” said Philippe Gimenez, Director of Research and Development, Impress. “Specifically, to be awarded Best in Metal Supreme Gold, against formidable competition, demonstrates our capacity to become an innovative leader in the metal packaging industry as a whole.”
